This monograph addresses fundamental issues for a democratic state governed by the rule of law: the criminal law protection of freedom of conscience, one of the fundamental freedoms of every human being in the modern world. This work summarizes the author’s many years of research, which focuses on the specific tasks assigned to protecting religious freedoms through criminal law. The book is a detailed analysis of the transformation of criminal law based on the Polish criminal law system, encompassing all Polish penal laws relevant to the issues discussed. The monograph, providing an overview of the development of criminal law, also includes a historical outline and references to universal religions and freedom of conscience and denominations, as well as the fundamental acts of general law concerning religious freedoms.
