Professor of biological sciences, specialist in phycology, researcher of algae from various habitats in the field of their taxonomy, biogeography, and ecology. He has significant achievements in research on euglenoids (Euglenozoa/Euglenophyta) in Europe and worldwide. Co-author of a number of publications, including: Freshwater of algal flora of the British Isles (2004, 2011), Atlas of Euglenophytes (2005), Taxonomic and environmental studies on Euglenophytes of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland… (1998), chapters in collective monographs, and about two hundred scientific papers. He is currently conducting research on applied phycology and the participation of algae in the structure of biological mats. In 2011-2018, he served as director of the W. Szafer Institute of Botany of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Chairman of the Krakow Branch of the Polish Botanical Society.
