On May 23, 2022, we opened the University Bookstore in the Faculty of Social Sciences — a new meeting place not only for students and researchers of the University of Gdańsk, but also for everyone outside the university who craves good reading, delicious coffee, and a friendly atmosphere. Here you can purchase books published by the University of Gdańsk Press and other academic, popular science, and literary publishers. The new space also hosts author meetings promoting publications by the University of Gdańsk Press, and the wide stairs fitted with electrical outlets are the perfect place to work or relax.
The café section of the bookstore, run by the owners of the small café Chałupka Wejherowo, known as Książką i Kawą (Book and Coffee), delights guests with the aromas of teas and coffees brewed from beans sourced from the best roasteries in Poland. Tea and coffee enthusiasts can choose from various types of tea and black and white coffees, brewed in a lever or pour-over espresso machine. There are also plenty of sweet and savory snacks: from breakfast options like smoothies and granola, through sandwiches, to cakes.
We firmly believe that in the age of the Internet, the proliferation of e-books, and open-access resources, these tangible, printed publications remain unrivaled and hold something that no electronic file will ever replace. That is why we want to surround ourselves with them, and we hope that a space built almost entirely from books will influence our visitors in such a way that they will succumb to the charm of these traditional books and want to take them to their homes.
For those seeking more than just books, our bookstore also offers original promotional gadgets related to the University of Gdańsk. Here you can buy, among other things, mugs, notepads, bags, and many other items that can serve as both a great gift and a souvenir for those visiting our campus.
We want our readers and guests to create this place with us by participating in events organized here or by posting short reviews and recommendations about the books offered in the bookstore, and even by submitting your ideas and suggestions regarding our offer.
