Full professor of humanities, novelist, literary critic and historian, as well as essayist and graphic artist. Winner of awards at the most important literary and cultural festivals in Poland and abroad. Awarded, among others: The Gold Cross of Merit (2002), the Silver Medal „For Merit to Culture Gloria Artis” (2008) and the Jan Heweliusz Scientific Award of the City of Gdańsk in the field of humanities and social sciences for outstanding achievements in the field of literary studies and research on Polish and European culture of the 19th and 20th centuries (2013). Member of the Polish Language Council at the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Gdańsk Scientific Society, the Adam Mickiewicz Literary Society, the Polish PEN Club, the Association of Polish Writers and the editorial board of „Artistic Quarterly”.
